I am reaching out in hopes of finding a lively, outgoing individual to join my son as a part-time, live-in caregiver for my exciting and politically switched-on son at his SFU residence. My son, Miles, is a wheelchair-user with SMA Type 2 - a condition causing significant muscle weakness. Although he possesses complete sensation, Miles needs support with transfers, dressing, bathing, and toilet needs, in addition to tube feeding. Miles is energetic and sociable, with a keen interest in politics, video gaming, and lively discussions on a broad range of topics. As the live-in caregiver over weekends, you will lighten up Miles's life by ensuring his regular transfers, assisting with grooming and dressing, and managing the tube feeding. You will also be responsible for some light housekeeping tasks, mostly laundry and ensuring Miles's comfortable positioning. The ability to deal effectively with Quad/Paraplegic Care is essential, along with proficiency in using a Hoyer Lift. While I realize the commitment this entails, I can currently offer a monthly stipend of approximately $1000, with the potential for negotiation as additional funding becomes available, which I am fervently working towards. If you are a young at heart, extroverted person who is passionate about offering support to a fantastic young man, please consider this opportunity. Looking forward to exploring the possibilities of this position with you. Together, we can make Miles's university experience a memorable journey.

We are looking for a reliable and trustworthy individual to provide companionship and light housekeeping for a gentle 94-year-old who has had a most fascinating life. She experiences mobility challenges due to a fracture in her hip. While a walker assists her movement, outside ventures are unnecessary. Her needs are simple. She appreciates good conversation, yet also values her quiet time, particularly when engrossed in a book in her favorite chair. Living with incontinence and a hearing impairment, she needs assistance in a few areas of her daily routine. Although she is independent enough to dress herself and manage some basic tasks like brushing her teeth and washing her face, she does require help with bathing, including sponge baths and hair washing at a sink. In addition, she needs assistance with meals and the administration of medications. Working hours would be less than 20 hours per week. The schedule, minus Tuesdays evenings, would be negotiable, with 2-3 4-hour shifts needed each week. This position is live-out and part-time with no need for a driver's license. Key responsibilities include meal planning and preparation, vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, laundry, some assistance with walking and providing bathing. These duties and the number of hours or shifts may change as her needs change. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is comfortable working with, or has experience dealing with incontinence (diapers), hearing impairment, a fractured hip, some breathing issues (she uses puffers and has COPD) and congestive heart failure. We live in a house with two sweet and shy cats. A love for classical music is a definite asset! Aimed start date for this position is on the 23rd of February, 2024. If you believe you have the qualities and experience necessary for this role, please get in touch so we can discuss further. Thank you.
