Although mom will be needing significant help bathing, getting dressed, meal prep and mobilizing in the near term, we expect her capabilities will improve as she heals and these needs will decrease. She has short term memory loss (but is otherwise lucid and oriented) so will also need med administration and reminder to use her walker and/or cane when she regains her mobility. Mom is a kind and friendly woman who is fiercely independent and enjoys a lot of quiet time. Ideally, you have a medical background and experience working with frail seniors. References and a police check will be required. Private room and food provided.

We are seeking a full-time, live-in palliative care provider for my 78-year-old father in Vancouver. He is transitioning to in-home palliative care due to myelofibrosis, ascites and related ailments. While he is still mentally aware, he has become frail, predominantly bedridden, is on oxygen and minimal hydromorphone, and requires assistance with all aspects of daily care. The role will involve a range of responsibilities including oxygen administration, bed pan assistance, heavy patient lifting & transfer, grooming, toileting, range of motion exercises, laundry, walking and bathing assistance, lifts and transfers, patient positioning and catheter/colostomy care. Experience with bedridden clients and those in hospice care or with cancer or incontinence is essential. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to reside in a comfortable basement suite on the property, with a flexible work schedule that can be agreed upon. It's crucial that you're mostly available on a 24/7 basis, barring coordinated days/hours off. The role is expected to exceed 50 working hours a week. While a driver's license is not a requirement for this role, the family will provide a car for use on the job if needed. My mother is currently in good health but is physically unable to provide continuous care for my father, and also deserves some respite from the 24/7 caring role. So, we seek a compassionate, responsible caregiver who will provide professional and supportive care while also offering a positive presence in our home. If you are a dedicated, experienced health care provider looking for an immediately available full-time live-in position, please respond with details about your experience, availability, and desired monthly salary.

My Mexican mother, Sara, due to her Alzheimer's, often reverts to Spanish despite knowing English. Therefore, a Spanish speaking caregiver is a requirement. My mother suffers severe short-term memory loss, forgetting things within minutes. Our household consists of my husband and myself, two family physicians, my brother, my 22 year old daughter (who attends SFU) and on holidays, our 20 year old son Luke (usually away at university). We also have three cats. We are looking for a patient, mature, kind, flexible individual to assist with any household duties needed, twice-daily pill medications, and occasional Alzheimer's-related mood swings. Despite multiple, significant medical issues, Sara is generally stable, cheerful, and physically inactive, using a cane. My mother is slow to warm up to non family members and still requires a lot of attention from me and my brother which is why we also need help with the household. I work part time having taken off quite a lot of time in the past year for my mother's health concerns.
