My 87-year-old father-in-law recently injured his hand. He had knee surgery last September and recovery was slow and secure mobility remains an issue. He can hobble along with a cane and needs to perform more physio to improve his mobility. He was diagnosed with mild early dementia last fall. He had heart surgery in 2023. My mother-in-law has been his constant companion and caregiver but needs some time to herself. The most recent injury is very frustrating because just when they think they will get past the latest thing, something new comes along. We are looking for someone who can play Scrabble with him, assist him with his physio exercises, and be a companion for him. He can generally take care of himself, and was fully mobile with some minor pain up until the knee surgery. Now mobility has become an issue, and with the dementia diagnosis, we are reluctant to leave him on his own for too long, as he has done some odd things, like putting dirty dishes in the oven. With it being a constant actively changing situation, we anticipate long-term needing occasional supervision and ultimately greater levels of care.

I am reaching out in hopes of finding a lively, outgoing individual to join me as a weekend-based, live-in caregiver who is energetic and talkative at my SFU residence. I use a wheelchair with SMA Type 2 - a condition causing significant muscle weakness. Although I possess complete sensation, I need support with transfers, dressing, bathing, and toilet needs, in addition to tube feeding. I'm sociable along with having a keen interest in politics, video gaming, movies and lively discussions on a broad range of topics. As the weekend live-in caregiver, I'll need you to help with some light housekeeping tasks, maybe a bit of laundry and ensuring my comfortability and positioning. The ability to deal effectively with Quad/Paraplegic Care is essential, along with proficiency in using a Hoyer Lift.
