Job Overview
We are seeking a full‑time live‑in caregiver to support our aging mother who is experiencing dementia. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and experienced in providing care to seniors with cognitive decline. This role requires a responsible individual who can ensure safety, dignity, and consistent support throughout daily living.
While a driver's license is not a strict requirement, regular outings will be part of the role. This may include escorting our mother to appointments, planning visits to friends, neighbors, and family, and organizing outings.

Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assist with all activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and mobility support.
- Companionship: Provide emotional support, engage in conversation, and participate in simple activities to promote mental stimulation.
- Meal Planning & Preparation: Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary needs, with a preference for Asian or West Indian cuisine.
- Household Duties: Perform light housekeeping, including cleaning, tidying, and managing laundry.
- Safety Monitoring: Prevent wandering, Reduce fall risks, and Respond calmly and appropriately to confusion, agitation, or behavioural changes associated with dementia
- Medication Support: Administer and monitor medication intake as directed by healthcare professionals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to schedules.
- General Oversight: Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment at all times.
Qualifications
- Experience caring for seniors with dementia or cognitive impairment
- Ability to provide safe physical assistance with mobility and personal care
- Knowledge of dementia‑related behaviours and appropriate responses
- Ability to prepare culturally appropriate meals (Asian or West Indian preferred)
- Strong communication skills, patience, and empathy
- CPR/First Aid certification (an asset)
- Willingness to live in full‑time
Duties
- Assist our mother with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning and preparation
- Provide companionship and emotional support
- Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and organizing living spaces
- Support our mother in engaging in recreational activities or brain stimulation regularly
- Help with mobility and transportation to appointments or outings
- Monitor health conditions and communicate any concerns to family members or healthcare professionals
- Foster a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and caregiving best practices
Experience
- Prior experience working with elderly with dementia or cognitive decline is mandatory
- Skills in cooking, meal preparation, cleaning, caregiving, and critical
- Compassionate demeanor and attitude with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt to need of our mother including her changing moods
- Ability to perform duties in the home setting
