On November 7, 2022 my father, who fought to the very end, died from brain cancer. He was my mom's primary caregiver and support. Now that he has passed, I have taken over my mom's care. My mom, who has early onset dementia, is an able-bodied person who can do everything for herself - with some prompting. Our main concern is that she requires gentle supervision - someone to keep an eye on her and ensure that she is eating, taking her medication, and watching out for her general well being and safety. While my mom is social and loves to make people laugh, she also does not like to be doted on 24/7. She appreciates her alone time and really does not appreciate being told what to do, but rather encouraged to do things. She is very lonely after losing my dad. We recently moved her to a retirement home in Cambridge in March and are looking for some additional support for her. She spends most of her days alone in her room, which has had a major toll on her mental health and memory. The ideal person for this will be someone who has an understanding of dementia and what to look out for. The ideal person will also be someone with good communication skills, patience, and a good sense of humor. My mom mainly needs someone to check in in her, hang out and watch a show, go outside, encourage her to eat, and feed the cat. If this is of interest, please connect with me and we can chat more.

Searching for a live-in companion/caregiver for our mom (two brothers and I). She's a boomer-aged retiree, diagnosed with dementia a few years ago. At the moment she has two part-time companions assisting her for approximately 20-25 hour/week. She lives in a modern 2 story, 3-bedroom townhouse with a finished basement. The basement is completely unoccupied at the moment and could be set up as a private dwelling for someone to utilize. It has a full washroom and easy access to laundry. We are seeking someone to live with Mom to provide some general oversight of not only her, but the household itself. Organizing all the regular household tasks has become overwhelming for her, i.e. cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, remembering to put garbage/recycling out, remembering to eat and administer medication etc. To be clear, mom can manage some of her day-to-day activities moderately on her own but does benefit from guidance as she gets off track from time to time. Additionally, Mom no longer has a valid driver's license, so transportation to and from her home to run errands, attend appointments, or visit friends is beneficial. As mom's condition changes, so too may the requirements. Flexibility, willingness to adapt/improvise and patience will all be key attributes required for this role. Our goal is to keep Mom comfortable and safe in her home as long as we can. We feel strongly that having someone in her home daily will provide the much-needed social stimulation that she lacks living on her own. Most importantly, knowing someone is there during the nights with her in case she has an emergency, really will give us a sense of relief. NOTE: Currently, mom has no needs for assistance with toileting or personal care. We welcome a conversation with any interested candidates, please don't hesitate to call me directly. Requirements: 1) Valid Ontario Drivers License & "reasonably" clean drivers abstract 2) Up to date Police check 3) Experience interacting with Alzheimers and Dementia patients (or other types of cognitive impairment) 4) Reliability, compassion, and outstanding interpersonal skills. 5) Healthcare, social work, or other relevant training/experience is a bonus. Compensation: We will discuss compensation and reimbursement for transportation services with any candidates selected for interviews. As noted, we have other caregivers actively assisting Mom, so we can be flexible with how we structure an arrangement if a candidate had the desire to maintain an existing job during the day. NOTE: My brothers and I are all located within 10 minutes of my mom.

I am looking for a little extra help for my father. He has MS and is gotten to a point where his Mobility is strenuous and so caring a bag of groceries and walking is too difficult at the same time. He can walk and he could do a little bit of grocery shopping but his legs get tired fast and I feel like it's time he had some help. I'm really hoping to find somebody who can come over a few days a week whichever days we work out for a couple of hours to do things like shopping for groceries a little bit of meal prep so things are easier for him throughout the week and to do his laundry for him so that he doesn't have to manage going up and down the stairs with clothes. He's very lovely person and has no behavioral issues whatsoever.
