I am currently seeking a compassionate, engaging, and proactive senior care companion for my father, a delightful 95-year old gentleman who relishes the company of others. Due to his age, his physical vitality is on the decline, yet his mental acuity remains largely unimpaired. He is very social and thrives on engaging in intellectual discourse on varied topics. This is not an ordinary care role. We are looking for a unique individual who doesn't shy away from sharing their opinion, creatively responding to his ideas and thoughts. It would be highly beneficial if you possess the skills and networking knowledge to help compile and publish a book, as it's a project he's been incredibly keen to accomplish. Although my father is techno-challenged, especially with writing emails, he otherwise retains his zest for life that transports him from the confines of his home to music events during the weekends. Work schedule required would be less than 20 hours per week; particularly every Wednesday morning and Saturday/Sunday afternoon. Your own car is mandatory for managing his outings and errands, which mimics the flexibility of a live-out, part-time position. The ideal candidate would hold a valid driver's license and exhibit a readiness to engage in daily responsibilities such as grocery shopping, visiting neighbours, friends, and relatives, planning outings and trips. Additional responsibilities would include rendering assistance with catheter/colostomy care, range of motion exercises, dressing and grooming. Although not a prerequisite, we hold in high regard those who are willing to work with or have had experience dealing with dementia, speech impairment, and incontinence (diapers). A personal touch, keen attention to detail, and genuine care for the elderly are vital qualities for this role. The preferred start date for the right individual is immediate. A driver's license and your own car are necessay for communting. This will be a full-time or a part-time position, requiring 30-40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Availability for morning, mid-day, and evening shifts is necessary. This opportunity will be live-out to begin but could become live in. Responsibilities for this position will include housekeeping, such as ensuring the house is clean, tidy, and organized, and the ability to assist with pet care. Other tasks include meal planning and preparation for lunch and dinner, laundry, grocery shopping, running errands, vacuuming, and hand washing dishes. Additionally, you may be required to escort our father to appointments and assist him with personal care as needed.. Experience in catheter and colostomy care is a plus, but not mandatory. However, an understanding of chemotherapy/radiation treatment would be beneficial. This role prioritizes human connection, companionship, and maintaining quality of life. We seek a caregiver who can become part of our family, treating our father with dignity, respect and kindness. Start date is tentatively set for 11.06.2025.
