I am seeking an immediate Live-In Home Support Worker for my aged parent in our family home based in Duncan BC. This full-time role necessitates a mature, female caregiver who possesses exemplary competence and prior experience in Dementia care, including Alzheimer's, as well as with other conditions such as hearing impairment and arthritis. Your role as a caregiver will primarily be focused on providing personal care for my mother, including bathing assistance, dressing and grooming, toileting assistance, and assisting with walking. You'll also be expected to facilitate a range of motion exercises to maintain her motor abilities and brain health. In addition, we need someone skilled in household care and management. Responsibilities will extend to housekeeping, washing and pressing laundry, and meal planning and preparation (including the cleaning of bathrooms, vacuuming, and washing dishes). Your ability to cook and adeptness at healthy meal preparation (according to our guidelines) is an important requirement for this role. It is essential that the candidate is comfortable working during weekends and nights, as the schedule requirements are currently – Friday nights, Saturdays, Sundays and Monday mornings. You should be willing to fill in as required for other days and times as well. We need a team-player who can communicate well and efficiently in the English language and is comfortable working and communicating as part of a team. As a live-in position, we offer room and board in our comfortable family home. However, as a private employer, I regret I am not able to offer immigration sponsorship. Please note that this job role is only open to non-smokers, and a driver's license is not required but the candidate must provide their own transportation to and from the worksite if they take time off. The working hours per week would be around 40 to 50 hours. We are looking for someone to pick up our elderly father with early onset dementia daily from Cowichan District Hospital and drive to our Mom's assisted living also in Duncan. We require this each morning at 10:00 am and return him at 7:00 pm. For a few of the days we would also require a companion for my Dad to take him out for a few hours, such as Tim Hortons or Duncan Senior Centre. My Dad is fully able to groom himself, lunches are made daily for them both, as is their dinner. My Dad does not require any assistance of any kind except to be a companion a few hours through the weeks, and to pick up and drop off daily. My Dad is a great walker.

Part of your responsibility will be accompanying him on these walks, ensuring his well-being along the way, and engaging him in hearty conversations over coffee. In instances of adverse weather, it would be required for you to drive him to his favorite coffee shop in Duncan, using your car. The successful applicant will have a genuine interest in senior care and preferably some experience working with dementia patients. As my father has dementia, always ensuring proximity to a restroom is one of the key considerations when accompanying him on these walks or outings. Although he has a cancer diagnosis, we are currently focusing on comfort care, rather than treatment. Occasionally, you may also be asked to assist him with some basic troubleshooting tasks, such as operating the television remote control or using his mobile phone. The main goal is to provide him with enjoyable companionship and occasional assistance, with his comfort and safety being the utmost priority. The preferred start date for this role is on the 11th of September, 2025, and it will require less than 20 hours per week.
