Saim K.
My name is Saim and I am 19 years old. I live in Surrey Surrey and I am pursuing my education at UBC in the faculty of science. I am majoring in neuroscience and working towards entering medical school and becoming a doctor. I have a passion for children’s education, especially those who are special needs or on the autism spectrum. I have developed an interest for autism spectrum disorder and am actively participating in UBC clubs related to this field. I live with my parents who are both doctors and my father is a psychiatrist, which is how I gained an interest in psychology and neuroscience. I also have a little sister who is 10 years old, and I spend time day to day tutoring her and spending time with her, which has developed my patience, teaching skills, and communication skills. As for my interests, I am passionate about gaming, sports (basketball and the NBA), and computers.
I have worked as a mentor for learning buddies network, where I helped children learn to read and write, which helped develop my skills in engaging with and teaching children in a positive way. I have experience with special needs children as well, as I volunteered at a speech therapy organisation where I helped to teach and engage with children on the autism spectrum. I also have day to day experience teaching and helping my sister with her school work. I have a passion for learning about the autism spectrum, and am currently participating in the autism society club at UBC. I study neuroscience at UBC and have experience in subjects such as chemistry, biology, calculus, and psychology. I am very interested in becoming a BI, and I am passionate about gaining more experience in this field of work.
