I was born in Poland and arrived in Toronto, Canada at the age of 4. I enjoy gardening, walking outside, nature, and the arts. I am a caring individual sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. I studied Gerontology-Activation in College (incomplete diploma) and have also volunteered almost 250 hours in a nursing home prior to that. I have also worked as a care assistant in a nursing home for a short time. I can be detail oriented when it comes to cleaning and enjoy cooking new and classic recipes.
I worked as a care assistant in a nursing home for a short time: I was basically a helper to the PSW's and I helped deliver laundry to rooms, helped with feeding, assisted in one on one personal needs, supervision, as well as helping the PSW's transfer/dress/clean the residents.
I also volunteered almost 250 hours in a nursing home when I was a teenager. I was a companion as well as helped to feed residents, as well as assisted in the activation department.
Currently, the way in which I intent to provide care for the elderly is to help them - however I do not have the experience/skills with any of the diagnosis listed below, or the job skills listed below-so it would need to be basic things I can easily be trained for or pick up on my own-like household chores, preparing simple meals, companionship/activities, taking to appointments/friends.
I am also willing to look into securing a certificate if this would help. I did study Gerontology-Activation Coordinator in college but have an incomplete diploma (1. 5 years complete minus the co-op portion).
