My name is Dorothy Zafir- daughter of George and Judy. Maryam has been part of our family since 2014. She cared for my mother and father with tremendous respect, a wealth of knowledge, and most importantly, love. My mother suffered from a rare neurological disorder with progression As her needs became higher Maryam’s nursing background was a huge asset as she recognized the smallest change and always communicated this with me and staff members as well as the doctors. Having a nursing background brought the family huge comfort and confidence in moms care. The transition of moms decline with respect to food was a huge risk factor. Maryam worked well with dieticians as mom had difficulty swallowing. Maryam was an extension of my mom. After mom was placed on a feeding tube Maryam was extremely competent in handling the machine for hydration and feeding. Maryam was careful with respect to transferring my mom with hoyer lift. She knew how mom loved to shower and feel clean- she created a spa ritual for her and simply spoiled my mom My mother was a ‘lady’ and Maryam knew how important it was for my mom to always be well dressed , make up/hair done, and fingers and toes manicured as well as smelling like a bed of roses. Maryam took pride as mom always received compliments from the other residents and staff. Maryam and mom had a undeniable bond that was so beautiful to witness. As time grew my father also needed some love and attention. He was diagnosed with Luis body dementia as well as having Diabetes. Maryam knew how to handle him when he had his difficult moments. She knew when to give him space and when to offer support. She always treated dad with dignity and respect. I referred to Maryam as superwoman- sometimes caring for both my parents at the same time while waiting for the support staff to arrive. In some instances when another caregiver was sick or late Maryam always saved us and took the shift. (Superwoman!!) Maryam was always available by phone if I ever had any concern she worked well with all our support team as well as palliative care team. She documented everything as required as well as keeping open communication with the family. Keeping mom and dad engaged and taking them out for walks or to the mall arranging special taxi or simply going by foot. Even during the pandemic lockdowns Maryam kept smiling and created an uplifting environment with music, activities and games for my parents. Maryam has and always will be a beloved member of our family. Maryam will be a great asset in caring for your loved one. She’s simply an angel! If you’d like you may contact me for more information.
