Brad M.
I am interested in becoming a caregiver due to my experience helping my mom tend to my dad who was inflicted with advance Parkinson's Disease and dementia. Before he passed away I assisted my mother with getting him in and out of bed, taking him to the washroom, and just trying to spend as much quality time with him as possible. This would include sitting with him outside on the porch and playing simple games like checkers and tic-tac-toe. In addition to assisting with the needs of my dad, I have been employed before where it was necessary to work with adults who were mentally incapacitated. Overall I would describe myself as a conscientious and diligent person who is very reliable. My interests include reading, drawing and painting as well as graphic design. I am not afraid of trying new things and I am very adaptable to new work environments.
I am a compassionate, reliable and patient individual who is seeking casual or part-time work in being a companion for an elderly person, male or female. This would be for a non-medical role focused on social interaction and basic assistance (such as chatting, doing activities together, providing emotional support and helping walk with a walker for exercise or wheelchair assistance). Currently, I am volunteering at CapitalCare and Shepherd's Care Foundation where I interact and engage with seniors during recreational programs, community outings, special events and celebrations or just enjoying a game of crib. As a graduate of the Disability Studies program with over 430 hours of practicum experience, I also have experience supporting individuals with Down Syndrome and those on the autistic spectrum.. References and letter of recommendation are available and I am only asking for modest compensation.
