As an in-home elderly caregiver for almosts 4 years in Canada and a registered staff nurse for more than 16 years of my previous employment. I have gained the knowledge, skills and good attitude that you are looking for in this job. I am a hard-working, honest, diligent, friendly, and very responsible employee.
I genuinely believe there are two types of employee: the first is someone who turns up to work and does their job so they can just pay their bills. The second employee type is someone who puts their all into their job, is totally committed and does all they can to help their employer achieve their goals. I am the second employee type, and I believe my previous track record and strong appraisals demonstrate that.
As an elderly caregiver my duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Providing care for the elderly clients such as: bathing, mouth care, assist with dressing, meals preparation and assisting with eating.
- Giving an extensive care for my client who requires full help in all Activities of Daily Living including feeding, and full assist for transfers and hover assist for mobilizing.
- Planning and preparing nutritious well-balanced meals following a diabetic diet for a male client and a minced food for a female client.
- Performing routine health care duties such as monitoring blood pressure, monitoring blood sugar, administering medications and prescription creams and ointments, and assisting with prescribed physiotherapy exercises.
- Assisting with daily physical and cognitive exercises.
- Performing routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds, ensuring the home is free of hazardous materials which may cause injury or harm to health and general upkeep of the house.
- Assisting their vascular dementia and alzheimer's dementia care as my priorities basing on their family's preferences.
- For the SPMS ( Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis) client in a wheelchair:
. Help with tasks related to personal hygiene, such as bathing, showering, dressing, hair washing and going to the bathroom.
. Provide manicure and pedicure and full body massage when needed only.
. Changing and cleaning of catheter bags
. Help transfer client from bed or chair to a wheelchair or vice versa using a Hoyer Advanced patient lift only when giving shower.
. Assist in transferring to and from car using a transfer board
. Help prepare and plan meals only if needed.
. Assist with physiotheraphy activities such as exercises and full body massages when required only.
. Schedule and plan any appointments when needed.
. Arrange transportation to doctors’ offices, to stores, or out with friends
. Shop for personal items and groceries
. Complete designated housekeeping tasks to clients room with washroom only, such as: -changing bed linens in the master bedroom -organize washing of towels etcetera and ironing. -general cleaning of master bedroom and bathroom -help to keep kitchen clean and tidy
- Feed dogs when required.
- Assist all the same care once on a free vacation trip with the employer.
