Gail R.
I retired from teaching three years ago. I was a teacher with Dufferin Peel for 30 years. I taught grades 1-12. I have always enjoyed being around people however, children and the elderly have always had a special place in my heart. I love keeping active as I enjoy hiking and exercising. I have a great sense of humor and resolve problems easily. I enjoy helping others and am a very compassionate individual. I always take pride in my work and work to the best of my abity. Children and the elderly bring me such joy.
I worked in the HELP (hospital elder life program) at the Trillium Health care centre last year. I aimed at preventing functional and cognitive decline among hospitalized senior patients. I performed mobility exercises, structured cognitive re-orientation and other therapeutic activities. We were taught how to assist the elderly in getting in and out of a wheelchair. I did exercises with certain patients and assisted others during mealtimes. I am reliable and always work to the best of my ability. I have worked for Seniors for Seniors, a well known company that provides the best of care for seniors. In this role I did a diversity of things such as taking seniors to various appointments, assisting with showering, cooking, shopping, cleaning, and helping to make seniors happy. Some of the clients had dementia, or hearing impairment which I was very capable of dealing with as I communicated with them. I have taken informative sessions on how to deal with these issues. I have also worked privately with seniors in their homes. I have helped them prepare meals, clean their homes, taken them to appointments and grocery shopping. I would be willing to help out on the odd weekend if needed. I like to make seniors feel safe, understood and happy as they continue to journey.
