I am Ashley, a 39-year-old Canadian citizen with a passion for caring for the elderly. I draw from my 9 years of experience working in retirement homes, home health care, and clinics. Life experiences, such as losing my father to ALS at a young age and dealing with multiple cases of ALS and MS in my family, have shaped me into a compassionate woman with a deep understanding of senior care.
My background in nursing and a year of DSW in college have allowed me to broaden my horizons in health care, helping me adapt to handling various situations with care, compassion, and caution. I have especially enjoyed my time at retirement homes where I have formed deep bonds with the residents, often regarding them as an extension of my own family. Witnessing their struggles and occasional losses has been challenging. However, these experiences have only strengthened my resolve to contribute to senior care.
In addition to English proficiency, I have a driver's license, and I do not smoke. I have my own vehicle for job-related needs, but I am unable to relocate or travel. My availability is typically in the evenings, with varying shifts throughout the week, including weekends. I want to stress my passion for this work and my commitment to being available for my clients when needed.
I find immense joy in bringing comfort to seniors through my services such as housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, meal planning and preparation, cleaning bathrooms, and running errands. If necessary, I am willing to obtain a police check. Having cared for patients with diverse diagnoses including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Dementia, Cancer, and Stroke, my ability to handle varying health conditions is well-rounded.
I am eager to return to health care and resume my roles as a Caregiver/Companion and Personal Support Worker after taking a break due to personal reasons. My resilience, patience, and deep desire to aid seniors fuel my commitment towards senior care. I am excited to make a positive contribution to the lives of many more seniors. I am looking forward to starting work in a full- or part-time capacity from April 22, 2024.
