Susan M.
I have been a caregiver for over 35 years. I have experience working with the elderly, physically challenged individuals, and children. As the eldest of five children, I was raised by a single father. My passion for caregiving originated from helping my father look after my younger siblings. I am a loving, patient, creative, and reliable individual who thrives on challenges. I appreciate diversity, and serving as a companion and caregiver allows me to experience something new every day. I have a profound affection for animals and currently own three rescue pets: a 95lb mixed breed, a small terrier, and an incredibly cuddly cat named Felix. In my free time, I enjoy exploring nature through activities like kayaking and hiking. My latest adventures encompass travelling to new locations with my trailer and dogs. Power tools are a girls best friend! Renovating my house and operating an excavator has been a wonderful experience! Cooking and baking have been my favorite hobby since I was a child.Discovering and trying out new recipes is a fun challenge that I enjoy sharing with my clients.
I have 5 years of experience working with Crohn’s disease, Dementia, and Alzheimer's. My responsibilities included bringing individuals to appointments and outings, feeding through a feeding tube, cleaning and covering the site, providing care after operations, dispensing medication, and creating a fun and caring environment through games, music, books, and crafts. I also helped with laundry and housework. I have 2 years of experience caring for an elderly couple. The husband had Alzheimer’s and the wife had physical impairments. My responsibilities included providing a safe environment for the couple, food preparation, help with feeding, transportation to appointments and outings, spending quality time with games and outdoor exercise, and assistance with household chores and laundry. I also transferred the husband from bed to a wheelchair using the Sera Steady, prepared for sleep by changing brief, massaging and applying cream to legs and feet, putting on pajamas, and tucking into bed for the night. I provided overnight care when extra support was necessary. I have over 30 years of experience caring for children of all ages, including those with physical handicaps and on the spectrum. The skills learned from working with children have proven to be useful when caring for the elderly.
