I am Colina, a Health Care Aide (HCA) Certificate holder with over 21 years of caregiving experience in Central Alberta. I am a Widow with a farming/ranching background. I also have a journeyman certificate in Cosmetology and have owned my own business as well as assist my late husband manage a Cow/calf operation. I moved to Red Deer and then Edmonton to be with my daughter and granddaughter after my husband passed.
With a track record of providing quality care to rural seniors including but not limited to those diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, Alzheimer's, Dementia, Cancer, Stroke, Visual and Hearing Impairments. I am dedicated to improving the lives and wellbeing of my clients.
In my career, I have held different positions in hospital settings in both Red Deer and Edmonton, mainly in non-health care capacities such as in the Dietary and Recreation Departments. My foray into private care saw me handling a variety of tasks tailored to fit my client's needs such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, running errands, laundry, assisting with personal care practices, and providing companionship including palliative care.
I have taken a course from Dr. David Sheard who was instrumental in developing "Dementia Care Matters".
I am a non-smoker who abstains from alcohol and prescription medication use, and am willing to undergo any necessary tests for clearance. I primarily seek live-out, full-time or part-time roles as a personal support worker or caregiver/companion, ideally in-home, retirement homes, or hospitals health care settings.
I am available all through the week, at any time of the day. I am eager to bring my skills and passion into ensuring that those in my care receive the highest quality assistance and companionship they deserve.
