Hello there, I'd be happy to introduce myself to you! My name is Kaitlyn, and by profession, I work as a child and youth care practitioner. This is a job I thoroughly enjoy as it allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. Recently, I had the joyous occasion of getting married. My better half works in the trucking industry, he earns his living as a truck driver. Together, we make a rather unique pair of individuals with greatly contrasting roles, which keeps our life interesting and varied! It's always a woman behind a successful man, and in this case, a hardworking truck driver. My roots dig deep into the soils of Ontario, a place I'm proud to call my home. However, I decided to temporarily bid farewell to my familiar surroundings and embark on a year-long adventure. I've taken a 12-month leave from my regular work and have set forth to explore this particular part of the world. While I'm really keen on soaking in the whole travel experience, I have found that I have quite a bit of spare time in my hands than I initially expected. As someone who has always had an affinity for productive work, merely idling away my time doesn't sit well with my active disposition. I have this innate desire to stay engaged in work, possibly in a freelance or part-time nature for the duration of my stay. On a lighter note, one of the significant highlights about myself is my love for animals. I find an unparalleled joy in their company! Not just that, I've also accumulated a fair bit of experience, both in my personal life and on a professional level, in various relevant operations related to pets. Hence, the idea of channeling my excess time towards this sphere and associating with animals piques my interest. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you, Kaitlyn S.

I worked one year house sitting that included 3 dogs, one cat and a fish. I ensured all animals were fed as per their typical schedule. I walked the dogs twice a day and let them outside as per their request if not every 2 hours except for when they were sleeping. I cleaned up after any accidents and ensured the house was clean and tidy as the home owner arrived home. I always came with lots of love and attention to give and always asked for a good detailed indication of the animal’s personality and forms of communication.

Owned animals my entire life. Learned a lot through experience.

Private social worker for child with structured schedule using ABA
This job I ran into as I noticed a mother experiencing some issues with her non verbal daughter who has autism. I helped her in that moment to get her daughter to stand up as she decided to sit in the middle of the road at a heavy weight, to much to lift and refused to move. Upon using simple ABA techniques and engaging her in a interest based completed demand = desired reward. That “lady” soon after became my employer and I worked for Monday to Friday 2:30 till 9 pm and in the summer 7-7 Monday till Thursday. Each day I followed a daily activity schedule (DAS) that was important for my client as her days were predictable and therefor reduced anxiety leading to a decline in aggressive or combative behaviour. Her DAS included lots of community involvement, news paper delivery and she was a park ambassador until winter came around she only had one job with Oakville beaver (community news paper). Aside from that her engagement outdoors and with others she found similar interests with occupied much of her summer days or after school activities. I assisted with personal hygiene, social and life skills. She always had a goal established by her behaviour therapist, so I would follow her goal orientation and contribution schedule which was included in all activities of daily living ( an example would be to independently get ready in the morning) this obviously requires much smaller goals first to be ready for the ultimate goal that she was challenged with completing based on her cognitive level of understanding the purpose of that goal and her own personal reasons to be motivated to complete it. I also administered her medication and would document as frequently as necessary sometimes even in 5 minute updates depending on the situation but regular logs of my observations on emotional well being her physical activities completed, her goal completion etc. This documentation was what her behavioural therapist requested for charting and documentation purposes. This is also how other members of her muti disciplinary team could recognize and place protocols for certain behaviours that may cause harm to herself or others while also teaching the client emotional management and calming techniques for being able to rely on herself to calm down from stressful situations. Throughout the shifts I would follow a behavioural support protocol as a proactive tool in an reducing behaviours that she has had a past experience with. Then just normal personal assistant with activities of daily living this would include getting ready for bed or getting ready in the morning.
Private employer ( parent looking for continued ABA therapy after school to control behaviours)

Child, youth and adult social worker for individuals with complex needs and dual diagnosis
Worked along side the individuals I supported to have them feel And be involved in their community to ensure a meaningful life that one can carry with pride, knowing they are a contributing member of their community. Planned daily outings and events. Assisted with homework and other chores Used a strength based approach. Followed a daily activity schedule when needed to provide structure for individuals that experience anxiety. This creates a day where the child/ youth understands and knows what the expectations are that day and can enhance their confidence/ self worth. Followed behavioural support protocols and programs provided by a behavioural therapist or other types of care when given by a reputable professional ( Behavioural Therapist, occupational therapist, any member within one’s muti disciplinary team. etc) Completed daily logs and documentation as requested or provided by parent or other care practitioners who work with the individual I support) Contribute activity with other members of a muti disciplinary team to ensure the child or youth is reaching all developmental steps at their age requirement. Create a meaningful and trusting relationship between myself and the child or youth I support while keeping professional boundaries. Engaging with the child or youth in their daily activities to ensure they are not only having fun but spending time outdoors or being physically active, socially active and being given the ability to be explore things they like or may dislike. Recognized moments that a child may learn from by problem solving difficult situations and allowing the child to make decisions (where appropriate) to find solutions.

Teachers assistant
Worked one on one with students that I was assigned to. Assisted with personal hygiene, tasks given by the teacher to the student. Followed independent education plan (IEP) that was constructed for a student tailored to their needs regarding his or her developmental disability, learning disability or any student in need of individual support for many different reasons or purposes. Documented each students achievements and daily activities, log sheets, and essentially an overview class to class of the entire session and how that student responded or took part in the class. Documenting emotional well being and any changes noticed that may affect the students ability to come to school and participate with the tasks asked if them. I had a duty to report any noticed signs of abuse or injury/ informed of by students or anybody known to the student, if for when it was brought to my attention. The protocol for this was clearly written out and singed by myself that I had a clear understanding of my responsibilities for the well being of this child and my obligation to report any and all cases entirely. This was for legal purposes and to prevent any threat or accusations upon myself. It is a convictabl offence to not report concerning observations, reports, information, findings or evidence.pertaining to the students well being.
