I'm a young girl that grew up in the small town in the Niagara Region. When I was younger there was always a pack of dogs in the house, my family was always the place to go for neighbourhood dogs when their family's went on vacation. In addition to caring for friends & family pets, we also had two large breed dogs, 4 farm cats, birds, and a family farm I would help out at over the weekends. After all the petsitting as a family when I was young, I decided to offer the same opportunities for those around me and I was able to gain a lot more experience in housesitting within multiple different homes, with different pets and their own sets of personal needs. As well as working with dogs with special needs, and aggressive tendencies. senior dpgs One example of some experience I have is the work I did with two puppies with litter mate syndrome. Over the course of Nine Months, I assisted an elderly woman who had brought home two 8 week old rambunctious puppies. I walked both puppies daily, clean up messes, gave meals, medications and worked along side a trainer of the owners choosing, in order to assist in the training and further their learning within the home and outside of the home. I acknowledge that each owner has their only tools to communicate with there animals and their own training techniques. I am very keen to learn new things and very respectful to honour each owners individual routine/training needs with each pet I care for. At 17 years old I started a co-op at a local animal hospital, this program has allowed me to learn a lot more about pets health and care, such as how to properly handle & care for an animal, either in distress or in extreme excitement, how to calm different types of animals using techniques best suited for them. I also learned about properly dietary needs, dental health, pain management. I had also been trained how to properly clean wounds/cuts, how to give oral & injectable medications. My love for animals has only grown fawner as I have gotten older and has turned into a passion for caring for animals. Upon finishing my co-op, this passion drove me to want to go to school to become a Vet Technician. As I wait to start my program next year, in the meantime I would like to continue to gain more experience with different types of animals and continue help people in my community. I've never lived a day without a pet, even during my childhood I have lived amongst dogs, cats, birds, and many farm animals. I have experience in house sitting, maintaining daily routines with the household pets and even with pets that display aggressive tendencies. I recently completed a six month co-op at Main West Animal Hospital. During this time I interacted and cared for many different types of animals, this also helped me gain insight on the health and wellness aspect of many different breeds of pets.
