Hello there. The first thing to know about me is that I genuinely love being around kids. In the past, I loved sharing a house with my roommate and her children, one of whom I helped care for from infancy to his second birthday. This experience inspired me to participate in the cultural exchange program of being an "au pair", where I spent three months in Spain caring for two wonderful boys aged six and nine. During this time, I was responsible for them six days a week. My duties included picking them up from school, helping with homework, preparing snacks or dinner and helping with light housework. I have also worked as a full-time nanny for two wonderful families, taking care of a 2. 5 year old girl and a 20 month old girl. We spent our time together attending story times, joining play groups and finding unique kid friendly activities to participate in. Recently, I spent multiple years working at a licensed childcare facility for children 2. 5-5 years old. I was responsible for planning outings, circle time and teaching emotional regulation skills. I spend my free time learning Spanish, running, practicing my photography skills and making indie movies. I also love travelling and learning about and experiencing new cultures. I have been lucky to have the opportunities to travel to China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Cuba, Rwanda, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Germany, and so many more. I personally believe that a child's imagination should be nurtured, so time with me is not spent in front of screens, but rather reading, drawing, running, building, singing, dancing, and so on. I am a firm believer in using positive language and modelling gentle problem solving skills when dealing with challenging behaviours. I have my ECEA & First Aid Certificates and excellent references. I am currently finishing my degree at UVic, but have a fairly flexible schedule. Ideally, I am looking for a long term placement with a family that shares my values. I have cleaned both homes and hotels in the past. I can clean floors, do laundry, fold linens, clean out ovens and fridges, tidy bedrooms, etc.
