We are seeking a live-in caregiver for an 81-year-old female who was recently diagnosed with Vascular Parkinson's and has mobility problems, particularly in her lower body. She is originally from the Caribbean. She has lived in the Oak Bay area of Victoria with her husband for 40+ years and worked at the University of Victoria as a professor for several years.
Some important qualities for her caregiver are a friendly personality, flexibility and a helpful spirit.
The live-in caregiver responsibilities include:
Assist with activities of daily living, including:
- administering her medication,
- bathing,
- dressing,
- grooming,
- toileting,
- transferring (that is, providing mobility assistance, such as, helping her in and out of bed, a chair, the wheelchair, or her rollator).
- accompanying her on grocery shopping trips
- accompanying her on doctor's appointments
- Assisting her with her daily exercise routine which sometimes will include walks organized by her husband
- Providing emotional support and encouraging her to do as much of her own care as is possible.
- Providing her with companionship
- Keeping her as well as her living environment clean and tidy.
- Monitoring and reporting any changes in her health, behaviour, or needs.
- Having a willingness to work flexible hours which will usually include waking up at least once during the night to let her urinate.
No driving, cooking, or house cleaning.
