We are looking for a live-in caregiver for my parents in South Burnaby BC. My mother is 84 with early stage dementia and my father who is 90 this year, recently had a minor stroke. He was the primary caregiver and used to cook, clean, do laundry, provide pet care and ensure medications were taken on schedule. The full time live in position will include responsibilities not limited to: meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, laundry, pet care, medicine administration, grocery shopping and other duties as needed. This position will be a long term opportunity as my mother is physically in great health just starting to diminish mentally as diagnosis was last year. My father up to this point was driving and providing full care for them both along with cooking and cleaning which he can no longer support. His cognitive faculties are strong but he's physically aging and has difficulty getting up and down stairs. My parents are incredibly kind and funny and are also looking mostly for some good companionship. They have been married 60 years this year and are loving and respectful. Ideally, we are looking for an initiative taker, strong multi-tasker & hard worker who will be treated like family. You must adore the elderly, be patient, kind, and responsible, and have at least 3 years of experience in caring for the elder ideally with experience with stroke and/or dementia patients along with up to date First aid training. Work & personal references are a must as are criminal record checks. We are looking for someone who is being safe (fully vaccinated) as my father is also living with prostate cancer so taking precautions is important. They also have 2 young cats so must like pets and be willing to help with pet care (litter boxes, water, food). Excellent communication skills and English proficiency is required. Includes your own furnished bedroom and bathroom in the basement along with access to a 2nd shared fridge. Starting wage would depend on experience. A drivers license & vehicle is an asset but not required.
