Hello! My name is Laura and I am very excited to tell you a bit about myself :)
I am currently a third-year university student studying Psychology at the University of Guelph. I spent my first two years studying at Simon Fraser University in BC. I was a full-time student-athlete playing in the NCAA, so I was lucky enough to travel to some amazing places through my sport. Since moving back to Ontario, I have had far more time to explore new interests and brush up on some old ones. I've always had a love for fine arts, music, and movies, and I enjoy all types of activities/hobbies, from baking to hiking
I have always had a strong connection with kids and getting to work with them is one of my greatest joys. Seeing their eagerness to learn and ability to overcome fear is something I admire as an adult. Studying psychology has allowed me to gain an understanding of all of the factors that contribute to a child's development, making this job even more fascinating.
I am currently living in Guelph, but will be home for the summer with my family in Brooklin! I will be available Monday-Friday most weeks, but I might be unavailable a handful of Friday afternoons due to travelling for softball. Please reach out if you believe I may be the right fit for your family and let me know if you have any questions :)
Experience:
- I worked at Helping Hands Daycare this past summer. During that time, I cared for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Throughout the week, I would work in each classroom, which allowed me to gain great experience with each age group and care for all 90 little ones. I also frequently helped out in the kitchen, where I prepped meals and snacks for each class, washed and dried the dishes, swept and mopped, and did the laundry.
- I frequently babysat my teacher's daughter for two years (aged 3-4). This also included light housework and watching their pet dog.
- I was fully trained to be a Youth Facilitator at OELC, but unfortunately could not put my training to work due to the pandemic.
