I was born in Toronto but raised globally and fluent in English, Spanish and Tamil with a working knowledge of French as well. I am and always have been deeply interested in early childhood development and finding ways to provide as loving and nurturing environments as possible to children in the hopes that they'll have a better chance at being kind humans as they grow.
My professional interests include, but are not limited to, teaching (especially language), communication and fluency coaching, and front end web development. My personal interests are far more diverse. I love to sing and I was trained in both western semi classical and south Indian classical music. I love to dance and I was also trained in Latin ballroom (with a focus on Salsa) and South Indian classical styles. I love to cook especially experimenting and finding ways to make healthier alternatives to well loved international comfort foods. Being physically active and healthy is very important to me. I thoroughly enjoy learning in any capacity whether it be through reading, watching shows, or real world experience. Curiosity and the love of life long learning are just two qualities that make working with children a complete joy for me. And I never tire of answering every kid's go to question "why?".
I did many hours of unpaid babysitting for friends and family as a teenager. The children were anywhere between infancy and 12 years old. In 2014 I moved to Colombia and became TEFL certified after which I began giving private one on one and group English classes to children between the ages of 4 and 16, as well as some adults. I continued to watch friends' babies and children during my free time just to give them some much needed relief and rest.
There was one notable position I held for about 2 years wherein I took care of 2 homeschooled sisters for 7 hours a day Monday to Friday. I started when the girls were 3 and 5 years old. My tasks were to teach them English, prepare their breakfasts, lunches and snacks, take them on educational field trips, play games with them and generally keep them safe, occupied and hopefully help them use up their abundance of energy during the day so they could relax with their parents in the evenings. On some days one or both parents would have a day off during which days I would just offer assistance where needed to make the experience smoother for everybody.
