Kate D.
I’m Kate; I’m 22 years old and am a currently working as a doggy daycare attendant here in Langford. In my free time I enjoy gardening, hiking, kayaking, and further developing my skills as a communicator. It is important to me that when interacting with others, of any age group, they are validated, heard, and know that they have space to feel. I am a social justice advocate and a proud member of the queer community, I am looking to work with families that are LGBTQIA+ friendly, inclusive, and celebratory. I am First Aid Certified, have a clean driving abstract and Criminal Record Check, and have successfully completed 2 years of Queen’s University Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (2016-2018). Since then, I’ve been working a variety of jobs in different fields as to figure out my truest next steps in life. I have a passion for Early Childhood Educator and Birth Mentorship and am interested in future careers in adjacent fields. I follow Covid-19 safety protocols in my daily life, wear face coverings when I’m in public, have limited social interaction, and hand wash very regularly. If you think that we would make a good match for one another, I look forward to hearing from you.
Since moving to the island, I’ve tried my hand at a variety of jobs to try and learn as much as I can about myself and my goals in life. I have worked for multiple families as a nanny/housekeeper/driver and truly love the relationship that it entails, both with the children and the parents. I have worked with children from newborns to teenagers, and truly enjoy celebrating each unique and individual milestone throughout these ages. While working for previous families, I have researched, found, and regularly visited local positive play/education groups for toddlers in my care. I enjoy doing mentally and physically enriching activities with children such as exploring nature, swimming, playing sports, reading books, and fostering imaginative play. It is my hope to find a nearby family that leads a lifestyle similar to mine, that I am able to provide kind, nurturing and non-judgemental care for.
I am currently studying under the Academy for Dog Trainers by Jean Donaldson and am assisting local dog trainer Kelsey Patterson (CTC) at K9HQ Doggy Daycare Plus. The Academy prides itself on being a completely aversive free, science-based, reward focussed program. If you are interested in hearing more about some complimentary dog training while I am in your home, please don’t hesitate to ask. I have successfully completed 2 years of Queen's University Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.
