Throughout my years in high-school I joined many of the school committees and in my final year I was inaugurated as the Deputy Head Boy of my school (a very high honour in my country). Some of my responsibilities included: aiding the teachers in enforcing school rules, organizing events and catering to the guests who arrived to them.
I mention this because, the mantle of Head or Deputy Head-boy or girl has always been given to an individual whose reputation at the school was respectable. It had nothing to do with popularity.
When I think of what influenced my character then and now, i have gratitude for the way my parents raised me. Nevertheless, now that I'm in varsity, not only have I grown more into who I am, but I have also dedicated time towards things that bring me joy. I love to cook, paint and dance. Furthermore i have a hunger for learning new languages (je parle le francais aussi)
I do not have professional child care experience as of yet. My knowledge is rooted in life experience. One could argue that i have a lot more experience than i am letting on. I am the the oldest sibling and the eldest among my cousins on either side of my family. In my culture, it's not uncommon for the eldest child to lead and care for his/her younger relatives. In my adulthood I have found that i enjoy the joyful chaos of being around children; especially whilst they are still in their youth.
I've been babysitting for a family here in Regina for a few months and I am now in tune with who I am as a babysitter. I am kind and gentle, however I am firm when encouraging good manners in children. Whatever a child learns (good or bad) tends to stick with them in adulthood.
