My name is Julia, I am 26 years old, and I am a recent graduate (April 2017) of the Child and Youth Care Practitioner program at Algonquin College. I have been living in Ottawa since I was born minus the two years I lived in Knowlton, Quebec for my father's job transfer. I have my own apartment as well as a part Bengal kitten. He is full of energy and keeps me on my toes. I am fairly active as I play soccer on Monday's after work as well as starting to go to Movati Gym to increase my endurance and stay healthy. I work part time at St Thomas More Catholic School as a Program Assistant 3. 5 hours a day Monday to Friday. I also work at a group home on the weekends but it is not something I plan to keep for much longer, as I do not feel it is the job for me. I love working with children and youths and helping them with whatever needs they may have. I like to cook, bake, go for walks, play with animals or just relaxing on the couch talking with friends and family.
I currently work in a group home on the Saturday's and Sunday's and work at an extended day program at St. Thomas More Catholic School from 2:45 PM - 6:15 PM Monday to Friday. I very much enjoy working with younger children because you are able to help them learn more and retain more information. Children are smart individuals and as adults, we can learn a lot from them. When I was younger I did work with children younger than 5 years of age but I would love to have more experience caring for newborns to 5 years of age.
I went to Algonquin College for 6 years and received two diploma's; Recreation and Leisure Services (2 years) and Child and Youth Worker (3 years). My most recent diploma is the Child and Youth Worker course. I am very proud of this diploma as it is my goal to work with children and youth in their natural environments. Whether that be in their home or group homes.
