Genevieve L.
Hello, my name is Geneviève, although most people call me Gen. I grew up in Toronto, but have been living in Montreal for 2 years. As well as English I speak Spanish fluently, and have an intermediate level of French which I hope to improve in the coming months by working with a French or Bilingual family. I have experience working in daycares, preschools, after school special needs programs, and nannying twins babies and newborns. I have a bachelor's degree in International Development Studies and Philosophy from the University of King's College and Dalhousie University in Halifax. I also spent a year studying and working in children's recreational programs in Ecuador. I strongly believe in the therapeutic and developmental benefits of art, play and movement, and I always try to bring that ethos into my work with children. I'm returning to school soon to complete my Master's of Social Work and Dance Movement Therapy. I am a creative person and spend a lot of time DIYing or creating something new, whether that be baking, sewing, design, art. I also love to dance, read, travel, and spend as much time near the water as I can. I am an open minded, easy going person, who is always willing to learn.
Most recently I worked as a program coordinator camp director for an integrated inclusion camp, looking after campers of all ages with and without disabilities. This position gave me a huge range of experience working through various behaviours and social challenges. I also gained experience creating arts, education and reception programming for a range of abilities and ages. In the past few years I've gained newborn experience as both a nanny and as an aunt. I was a site lead for an after school program with St Alban's boys and girls club for the 2020-2021 school year in Toronto. The pandemic provided a lot of challenges for us in terms of running a lot of online programming as well as the social and emotional strain on our kids. This position gave me new experience and strategies for working with children with emotional and developmental challenges, such as anger, violence, and interpersonal issues. It also gave me valuable practical experience communicating with parents regarding their children's needs and progress, and liaising between my staff, management, parents and students. I feel I learned a great deal from my students, I had a lot of fun designing the programming (we did a lot of art, sports and science experiments) and I was sorry to leave it. In 2020 I nannied for a family in Ecuador caring for their twins Amaru and Aruna (12 months-18months). I usually spent the days with them which included preparing their meals, getting them down for naps, keeping them cool in the heat, and potty training. This was a wonderful experience, I became very close with this family and we formed a special bond since we saw each other through the beginning of the pandemic. In 2019-2020 I worked part time as a preschool relief teacher while finishing my degree. This included supervising play, caring for the children, assisting in their learning activities, resolving conflicts. I greatly enjoying this age group when children are learning how their actions and emotions affect others. Additional Experiences/Qualifications: I am very flexible, I have no set schedule right now or specific expectations so please reach out and we can discuss what works for everyone.
I have a Bachelor's degree in International Development Studies and Philosophy from the University of King's College and Dalhousie University in Halifax. I am also a certified English as a Second Language Teacher.
