Sandy T.
I moved to Montreal from Australia in 2016 to study circus at Ecole Nationale de Cirque. I have taught circus classes to children of all ages since 2013. Growing up, I surfed and also worked as a surfing instructor for children. Since 2019, I have been working as a professional circus performer. In 2022, I directed and performed in a show that I co-created with my partner, Noah. We are continuing to work on our own projects, which provides me with a very open and flexible schedule.
Teaching circus arts: 2013-2016: Flying Fruit Fly Circus Australia. Duties: teaching circus to children from the ages of 4 to 15. The groups were separated based on skill level. I would teach up to 60 kids with 3 other instructors and 8 kids one on one. I taught general acrobatics, aerials, juggling, skipping, trampoline etc. also warm ups and cool downs. Another important aspect of Circus teaching is cultivating a fun positive and safe learning environment. I would also help the students to create their own circus acts for the end of term shows During this time I also travelled to Papua and The Northern Territory, Australia to do special workshops and create shows with the kids from the area. Since 2016 I’ve worked freelance and for several organizations (including Circa contemporary circus and Ecole Nationale de Cirque) as a circus instructor in youth circus settings and special workshops. In 2016 I worked as a surfing instructor with Josh Palmateer’s surfing academy in Western Australia. Working with children from age 6 to 18, in groups of around 30 with 2 other coaches. Duties: teaching surfing techniques, pushing kids into waves, teaching them about ocean dangers and how to spot them and other general water safety skills.
