My name is Darian and I am a 28 year old female student originally from Etobicoke, Ontario. I moved to Innisfil with family in late 2020 and graduated in early 2021 from Seneca College with a Graduate Certificate in Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies as well as a diploma in Early Childhood Education. I currently live in Barrie and just completed my Master of Science in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care and am looking for part time work while I figure out next steps.
I have experience caring for children as young as infants up to school age throughout my field placements with school, as well as tutoring, summer camp and other volunteer experience. I have a strong background in child development, family-centred practice, as well as curriculum development. Additionally, throughout my 10 years of experience working in retail and the restaurant industry I have developed strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
Along with my childcare experience, I was also a volunteer for 5 years with my local animal shelter where I was responsible for taking care of the dogs. I fed, walked, and socialized them as well as administered medication when needed. I love to read, play softball and walk/hike as much as I can. I also love camping and the outdoors in general and have recently taken up indoor climbing as a hobby (which is so hard but fun!).
I highly value the importance of play and family-centred care when working with children. I love to support children in exploring and learning about the world around them, including lots of outside time - it's why I have pursued early childhood education and my other academic experiences to learn as much as I can about child development. I think it's such a beautiful thing when we can help to empower children to trust in themselves and feel safe in this world.
I look forward to speaking with you and am more than happy to send over a more detailed resume if you would like :)
Throughout my field placements with school I have volunteered in childcare centres in both an infant room as well as a junior preschool room. I also was placed in a Kindergarten classroom as well as a grade 2/3 classroom. In all of my field placements I prepared and implemented responsive and inclusive experiences for the children. I also built meaningful relationships with the children, their families and my supervisors.
In high school, I tutored and helped an elementary school student with their French homework for a semester. I reviewed their homework with them and supported them in completing their work. While I was in high school I also worked for a childcare centre where I helped with the French summer program.
Most recently I have been employed as an RECE for a summer camp, before/after school program and I was the nanny for an infant for approximately 1 year before leaving the province temporarily for an internship.
