Companion/care for active grandmother with dementia (must be small-dog friendly) downtown Calgary

Our family is looking for a full-time caregiver (approx. 9 am to 5 pm, 5 days per week) to look after our mother who is in her 70s and suffers from cognitive issues/dementia, as well as diabetes. She is energetic and mostly independent, but needs help with the activities listed below. Health-related assistance: · Help administering medications (i.e., ensuring that she takes them) · Check blood glucose on the DexCom glucose monitor on her phone (no need to do finger pokes) and assist with DexCom app when required · Help with insulin injections (incl. determining appropriate amount, setting the amount insulin on the pen, observing injection, safe disposal of needles) (family can provide training on all this but experience with insulin an asset) · Charging and ensuring the patient has all devices on her person and charged Other duties: - Meal planning, preparation and encouraging patient to eat - Light housework, tidying - Laundry - Running errands with patient - Maintaining safe housing environment - Some help with dressing (e.g., ensuring correct clothing size and putting clothes on the right way) - Help with finding things, ensuring devices are charged and working (esp. phone and Lifeline device), help using devices (e.g. remote control) - Accompanying patient walking outdoors with dog - Ensuring dog is fed - Optional: Transportation to appointments, pharmacy, grocery store and social events

We're in search of a compassionate, cheery, and dedicated individual to join our caregiving team to assist in caring for our beloved Mom who, unfortunately, suffered a stroke in 2020. This role involves WEEKEND SHIFTS, primarily from 7 am to 3 pm, though there may be occasional shifts extending until 11 pm. There's also a possibility for additional shifts, providing you with more opportunities. Please do not apply unless you are fully available for weekends. Your responsibilities would include assisting with transfers, bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, executing exercise routines and accompanying for short outings within the neighbourhood. Applicants should have a minimum of two years experience in a similar caregiving role, and it's essential that you have experience with or the willingness to work with stroke, hearing impairment, speech impairment, and paralysis. This part-time, live-out position requires less than 20 hours per week, mainly during mornings, mid-days, and evenings on Saturdays and Sundays. Our family can provide a car for use during job hours, though a driver's license is not a prerequisite. We are located near Rockyview Hospital in S.W.
