I grew up in Victoria and continue to enjoy life on the west coast. I love surfing, hiking, swimming, camping, and exploring outdoors in general. I am also an avid reader and passionate about fostering a love of learning in kids. While I have lived with a chronic illness the majority of my life (Crohn's disease) I consider myself very outgoing, energetic and friendly. Patience and flexibility are also strengths for me. I love working with kids and building positive relationships with each student I work with. I have been tutoring since I started the Education program at UVic in 2016. My experience is primarily working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, anxiety and mood disorders, chronic illness, and behavioural and other exceptionalities. I have been working as a teacher since 2018, and have been teaching and assisting in a special education school since 2020. I am also currently working towards my special education certificate and I am Level B certified. I currently teach grade 9 and 10 sciences and mathematics, but have experience in all subjects from kindergarten to grade 8.

I am an MA alumnus in political science from SFU and I have a great passion for international relations, law, and philosophy. I have conducted Teaching Assistantship for three years during my MA degree in several courses in Political Science (POL), Criminology (CRIM 101), and Humanities (HUM 100). I am fully competent to assist students in understanding course material and doing assignments, preparing for exams/test, and similar tasks in classes. My high school was a Quant-weighted one and I consider myself competent for teaching pre-Calculus Math as well. I am an avid court tennis player and compete in recreational tennis leagues regularly. I have extensive knowledge in the technical/tactical aspect of the game and I can provide private tennis lessons as well. I have taught multiple people in the past, starting from basics up to a advanced-level game. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! :) I have completed my Master of Arts degree in Political Science at Simon Fraser University, and I have worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in several courses in Political Science (POL), Humanities (HUM 100), and Criminology (CRIM 101). I have a BA in international relations. My high school was a Quant-weighted school and I consider myself competent to teach pre-Calculus math as well. Most importantly, I am confident that with my TAing experience at SFU, I am an ideal candidate for tutoring roles in social science courses. I can provide my CV and proof of education if necessary.

Hello! My name is Octagon (they/he) and I am a British private tutor, nanny and horse trainer. I am a Creative Writing specialist, but also cover the broader curriculum at Elementary level and most humanities at High School level. I moved to Victoria almost a year and a half ago and have loved discovering life on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean! In addition to my work with children as a tutor, I am also a fully accredited horse trainer and riding coach. I would absolutely be open to considering equine-facilitated learning with prospective families, and find that incorporating the natural world into learning develops both creativity, compassion and curiosity in students. When I'm not working with young ones and horses (often both at the same time!), I enjoy exploring the Southern Island (the Sooke Pipeline has been a delightful recent find of mine) and watching the very talented drag performers resident here in Victoria. I have enjoyed 8 years of experience as a private tutor back in the UK for many children, from providing broader home-schooling education to delivering tailored programmes focussed on fostering specific gifts and talents for students. While I cover the broader curriculum of humanities, math and science for Elementary schoolers, my specialism is as a creative writing tutor for learners up to and including undergraduate level. I have a Masters degree in Creative Writing (Royal Holloway, University of London, UK), and have previously facilitated group creative writing workshops for the prestigious Chelsea Young Writers group in London. I am comfortable and confident in delivering creative writing tutoring in home and school settings, for individuals and groups of all ages. The heart of all my sessions - regardless of subject or context - is to nurture a sense of curiosity, fun and self-belief in my students by exploring the expanses of their own creativity!
