Ava M.
I am a child of an immigrant Chinese mother, who had high academic expectations for me growing up. She always encouraged me to do my best and to be kind to others, and has instilled the drive and passion I have for teaching that I have to this day. This led me to become an honour roll student throughout elementary and secondary school and to pursue my Bachelor's degree in Social Work, specializing in working with children. I am in my fourth and final year, and I plan on pursuing a master's degree post-graduation. This educational pursuit has strengthened my skills in reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking, while my tutoring jobs have kept me knowledgeable in all of the other subjects I previously learned in high school and elementary school. In my free time, I love to read and do all kinds of crafts! I also love being active and hiking, no matter the time of year. My favourite hiking buddy is my dog and my Dad!
I have been a private tutor since 2019 for all school subjects besides the sciences for students in JK to Grade 10. I also worked as a teacher at Oxford Learning Centers, teaching math and English to all grades from 2023 to early 2025. I have also worked as a Camp Counsellor since 2019, and this summer I began my position as a Camp Supervisor.
