My name is Abia, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, with an expected Biology Minor. My passion for STEM and education led to a commitment to assisting students in achieving their academic goals and developing confidence in their skills. I have extensive experience working with children, youth, and seniors in several educational and mentorship roles. My experience with education-related roles began in high school when I tutored high school students in math. Over the years, I have taken on many virtual and in-person teaching positions, from tutoring youth in the maths and sciences to being a summer camp program coordinator for STEM and organizing lesson plans for this camp, in collaboration with my colleagues. Through my experience directly connecting with students and in a supervisory role, I developed a teaching style that involves personalized support tailored to each student’s needs. A fun fact about me is that apart from STEM, I also love everything creative! I love experimenting with coffee and matcha (kind of like a barista), and I sketch/am a painter. I have lead and part took in many clubs of which include, Deputy Prime Minister and Diversity Minister, Yearbook and Prom Committee, Dance and Art Club, as well as lead as a voice at my LDCSB for BIPOC youth in the London Catholic School community. I currently am in many clubs at McMaster, as well as frequently volunteer. I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills in order to support you through your academic journey!

I have three years of experience tutoring high school students, primarily focusing on mathematics. Throughout my time as a tutor, I’ve helped students significantly improve their grades, raising them from 60% to 85% and higher. Beyond academic support, I’ve also worked on building my students' confidence, encouraging them to reach out for accessibility services when needed and fostering a growth mindset in their approach to learning. In addition to my tutoring experience, I am currently a second-year Life Sciences student at McMaster University, with a minor in Biology. I have completed a range of STEM and psychology courses during my first and second years, with a strong focus on biology. I am confident that the knowledge I’ve gained in my undergrad, combined with my tutoring experience and my interpersonal skills from previous jobs, make me well-equipped to help students of all backgrounds succeed. I’m passionate about helping students not only improve their academic performance but also develop the confidence and skills they need to tackle challenges on their own. I've had the opportunity to help out many kids as a Program Coordinator in my STEM camps! II look forward to bringing this same approach to new students and helping them achieve their full potentia!
