I am a young grandmother of 15 and have a love for teaching preschoolers how to read. I am described by most people as creative and I love to sew, craft, do woodworking and decorate .
I am originally from Southern Alberta and am as comfortable around cows as I am uber drivers, bike lanes and traffic on the Anthony Henday.
I enjoy spending some time outside every day whether to walk, bike, hike,, work in my flower gardens, or play pickleball.
I am not a team sports player but enjoy watching some hockey, rugby, football and basketbell.
I enoy a variety of outside activity such as swimming, kayaking, biking and hiking. I am always happiest when near the water of some kind.
I have 4 grown, married children, and tried to do as much with them before they started school as I could. They turned out alright, lol. A radiologist, an accountant, a dental assistant and a recreational therapist, all with their own children now.
I am a dog lover over a cat lover. I am good with most pets,
I am currently married, and live in the West End of Edmonton
I have one year of early childhood education.
I have 4 grown children of my own with. whom I did a lot of preschool work, ran a day home and a preschool for 4 year olds with each of them.
I was an educational assistant for 9 years and that included being the reading coordinator, an ESL and a special needs assistant. Over half that time was in grades K-2, and the other was in grad 5 art and grade 8 math.
I have always been an advocate for teaching children to read and will never say no when asked to read a story. I believe that reading is best learned through traditional phonics, hands on games, and creative play. . Although I am not a fan of a large amount of "screen time" for young kids, I do believe there is some value in giving them access to alternate, digital ways of reinforcing concepts already taught or to occasionally fill a gap an spark some positive progress.
I also believe that reading really takes off when the child truly finds something to read that interests them.
I have one year of Early Chldhood Education from BYU Idaho.(formerly Ricks College)
I have been a special needs assistant for students needing occupational, physical and speech therapy, as well as full time aide to a boy in grade 4 with autism. I have previously attended a special needs conference in Kananaskis, as well as teacher trainings |professional development meetings within our schoool division .
My oldest grandson (9) has autism and adhd, and my superpower is my own adhd.
I loved being a full time aide in kindergarten in Taber, AB and absolutely love helping preschoolers and kinderkids to read.
In a church | Volunteer capacity I have worked with children aged 18 months through teenagers, preparing lessons, signing time, and more.
