Cassia V.
Valuing community and connection, I am seeking my first employment opportunity in a setting focused on communication and learning. Ever since I was a young girl, I aspired to be a speech language pathologist (SPL), having fixed my speech impediment thanks to the efforts of my childhood speech pathologist. Subsequently, I have developed a deep appreciation for teaching, especially among youth. I personally understand and relate to being unable to connect with teachers, and empathize with how a lack of connection inhibits learning in a welcoming, positive environment. Currently, I attend William Aberhart High School as a Grade 11 student (4.0 GPA) and express excellence in my extracurriculars and academics, moving towards post-secondary education in the field of Linguistic Healthcare Services by 2027. As a volunteer with the Calgary Public Library, I taught elementary students how to communicate effectively through conversation and reading. My experience shows my commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging environment for the children, parents, co-volunteers and coordinators of the Reading-Buddies Program. For example, I once engaged with a young boy who needed extra support from me as he struggled with his shyness. I demonstrated patience and was able to make a connection by relating to common interests, so that he felt heard and understood. Additionally, I handled parent feedback and was able to answer questions or provide direction that would support their experience within the program. Lastly, I showed commitment to the program by never missing a scheduled shift and often stayed later than scheduled to help peers complete tasks. I have full availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays, and am happy to work flexible hours.
An avid ELA tutor at the Calgary Public Library, working with children ages 5-8 to set them up for success in Elementary School and life beyond. I am always eager to make learning a fun, comfortable and personal experience.
