Anh D.
I am the dishwasher, laundry person, and last-minute ingredient acquirer. I am my family’s designated fruit cutter, expressing my love language through pieces of poorly butchered pears and pomelos. My Vietnamese name, “Minh Anh”, also often poorly butchered, is usually followed by the words “good example”. Never pushed or compelled into strict expectations, I strived to be a high-achieving student because of the goals I set for myself. My parents call me a role model, a guide and a blueprint for success for my two younger siblings. Alone, I enjoy scrapbooking, outdoor walks, and baking. Among family friends, I am the oldest daughter; the smart one, the quiet one. Among bubble tea chains and Lego stores, I am a regular. To teachers, I am diligent and proficient, independent but a team player. To friends, I am thoughtful and supportive, the shoulder to cry on or the ear to rant to. Yet, regardless of how earnest and mature I present, I am still emotional, quick-tempered, and impatient. Nevertheless, I try to overcome these traits, regardless of how persistent or innate they are. My aim for high achievement, whether scaffolded by excellent test marks or glowing report card comments, is fuelled by my determination to become my best self.
