Madison M.
My name is Madison and I am currently a substitute teacher in Victoria. I love the outdoors, especially the beach, and my favourite place to be is either in or on the water. I am a sports enthusiast and I was even the captain of the University of Calgary field hockey team. I also have a passion for reading, specifically dystopian and romance novels. I have always enjoyed spending time with my own grandparents and am usually the first to help take care of them after a fall or a surgery. My passion for providing care was solidified while working at an independent living home during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. I realized how impactful it could be, simply by having conversations and creating connections. Since visitors were not allowed into the facility at that time, it was also hugely helpful to assist residents with tasks, errands, and to create virtual ways for them to communicate. This greatly contributed to maintaining their quality of life during a time of great uncertainty.
During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked as a concierge at an independent living home. Since the residents weren’t allowed to have visitors at this time, it was our responsibility to offer comfort and support to the residents. I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the job and would love the opportunity to offer my care again.
