After my mother-in law passed away I took some time away from caretaking but soon recognized there were other families who needed extra help and I now had a wealth of information in my tool belt to assist me. My last client has moved into Long Term Care and I am ready to take on new client(s) specifically in the Maple Ridge/ Pitt Meadows/ Mission/ Langley/ Port Coquitlam area. As of right now, I have two new clients on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. I can take on new clients on Tuesdays, Thursday, Saturdays or Sundays and request a minimum of 4-6 hours per day. I am patient and kind and live a very simple, uncomplicated life with my partner of 13 years. I have an excellent command of the English language being born and raised in British Columbia and strong communication skills. You will find I am independent and self-motivated and have a flexible and friendly attitude. I own my own vehicle, am accident free and have a Class 2 driver's license which means I can drive a school bus, taxi and anything else that doesn't require air endorsement). I have three Covid vaccines. I am a life long non-smoker. My 3 sons are grown, and I have 4 grandchildren. During the 2 years of Covid I did not work outside the home and began creating craft kits for my granddaughters to send in the mail. (they live 5 hours away). I realized I could easily transition these into Seniors crafts and bring that creativity into my new position. I have worked as a florist, a teacher aide and in office administration (I wrote and detailed 2 instruction manuals on how to build an ultra-light airplane). I have worked as a business manager in a car dealership, an Event Organizer and as an Arena Manager in an Ice Rink (I can drive a Zamboni). I ran an Online business from home reselling used women's clothing. Athletics played a major part in my life and I have over 30 years of volunteer coaching experience ranging from elementary to high school boys and girls. I have participated in at least 12 different B.C. Games as an athlete, coach, torchbearer, official, Venue Chair and volunteer. Hobbies over the years include sports, volunteering, flower arranging, gardening, sewing, camping and crafting. I love repurposing items into something useful and beautiful. You may reach me at [email protected] and put "Housekeeper/ Care Companion Wanted" in the subject line. I look forward to hearing from you!

Private Companion to a 90-year-old female with dementia living in Independent Living. for 10 months. Provided daily assistance with personal grooming, dressing, nutrition and hydration. I provided emotional support and comforted her when she was feeling anxious, lonely or depressed. We went for walks and would sit in the park and observe nature and chat about the many things we had in common. I encouraged her to participate in daily activities and maintain interaction with her friends. I did light housekeeping which included: wash dishes, clean bathroom, change bed linens, sweep floors, water plants, clean out fridge and wash/ dry/ fold/ put away clothes and garbage/recycling. I also kept in-house inventory and would purchase items as needed. Private Companion to a 92-year-old gentleman with advanced dementia who lived in Long Term Care. I visited him weekly for 3 years until he passed away. We went for scenic drives in the country side. He liked to people watch so we would sit outside at Dairy Queen and eat our ice cream sundaes. His final year he was bed bound and I assisted with meals and hydration. He was a former house painter and loved to sort large Duplo blocks into colours. I provided email updates to his daughter who did not live close by. Personal Companion to 87-year-old female (my mother in law) with dementia for 6 years until she passed away. I provided daily support and assistance for 3 years in our home. We went shopping for clothes, to the movies and and to lunch and programs at the Seniors Center. I drove her 4 times per week to the Adult Day Program offered in our community. Her needs became too difficult for us to support her at home and she moved into Long Term Care 45 minutes away. I was one of three paid companions and I visited her 4 times per week for 3 years. She fell and broke her hip on the third day and she was wheelchair bound for the remainder of her life. She quickly slid downhill and became non-verbal and aggressive. We participated in exercise classes, art therapy, music sessions and just about anything else that was offered in the facility. I assisted with meals/ feeding/ hydration. I documented note worthy details in the family/ companion communication book.
