Growing up, I was raised by my mother all by herself, From an early age, she instilled in me the values of empathy, kindness, and l fond of dogs whom I must say have been a part of my childhood as I was growing up. I was also fortunate to have strong connections with both sides of my family, Uncles, Aunties and counsins. Also both sides of my family with my grandparents whom played a significant role in my upbringing. Some of my fondest memories are from the summers, Christmases, and holidays spent with them. I was incredibly lucky to have had the chance to care for both of my grandmothers at different times in my life, supporting them through their final years. Those experiences were heartfelt and memories worth keeping forever. My mother reinforced my deep sense of responsibility and compassion, guided by my strong belief that "Charity never faileth."
My journey into caregiving began long before I pursued formal training. As a working student during my university days in the Philippines, I balanced multiple roles, from being a grillman to a stockman at a fast-food chain part-time to also being a call center technical support job at nigtht. while attending University during the day. These jobs taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of hard work. Yet, my true calling emerged when I had the opportunity to volunteer at Albert Park Senior Care Home from 2014 to 2016. There, I gained firsthand experience in person-centered care, learning the significance of addressing each individual's unique needs and aspirations.
During my clinical placement at Regina Gardens Long-Term Care, I gained hands-on experience in assisting residents with their daily needs, ensuring their comfort, and maintaining a clean and supportive environment. This opportunity allowed me to put into practice the values of kindness, empathy, and compassion that had been instilled in me since my early years. It reinforced my deep belief in person-centered care and strengthened my passion for working with older adults.
Beyond my professional life, I am deeply family-oriented. I cherish family outings, reunions, and my favorite pastime—videoke as most Filipino families love and watch movies. Music has always been a source of joy for me, offering a way to connect with people on a deeper level. Growing up, I participated in singing during family gatherings, along with my cousins and other relatives. In the Philippines, I also have five dogs—Shih Tzus and a Border Collie—whom I love very much. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, my faith guides me in fostering faith, kindness, patience, charity, service, and love in all aspects of my life.
With my recent completion of the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at the Hamilton Institute for Health Personnel, here in Canada. I am eager to apply my skills and passion, along with my values, in the culture of caregiving in a meaningful way. I am looking for an opportunity to provide elderly care, child care, and care with special needs, preferably in a full-time, live-in PSW role. If given a chance, I would also consider and goal to be an active and collaborative member of a care team, either in a Hospital, Long-term or carehome. However, supporting individuals in a home setting would be more personal fulfillment because I will have a very special connection once you meet your clients alone at their home each day, achieving their personal goals while ensuring their dignity and well-being.
I am available to start working as soon as possible and am flexible with my schedule to meet the needs of the individuals I support.
Caring for my grandmothers was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Now, I am ready to extend that same level of care and compassion to people who will let me into their lives, making me a friend and employee for positive impact in their lives every day.
I do not have paid experience in taking care of pets, but I grew up having common house geckos as my very first pets. They are very common in the Philippines, where I lived for almost 44 years. I have five dogs back home that I love and miss very much. I have learned that each dog has its own unique personality as I take care of them. Now that I am in Canada, I still communicate with them through Facebook Messenger, while my mother and nephew take care of them.
