Hi, I'm Edith. I landed my first job when I moved to Calgary where I worked for Cinderella House Cleaning for several months. My ability to speak and understand French, which was a requirement at the company, came in handy. However, after a few months, the company had to close down. This transition led me to shift my career path to becoming a nanny, a role in which I could employ my French language skills. I found it fulfilling to be able to teach and facilitate French language learning. It worked out pretty well, and I served two families until the Covid crisis hit. I managed to find contracts with families: one for 6 months and another for 4. After a year, I was able to return to work post-Covid. However, this period was marked by personal stress as my husband became too sick for me to leave him alone. Consequently, I stayed home to care for him until he passed away in July this year. This meant that I have essentially been out of work for the past two and a half years. Nevertheless, I still have all my books, cards, and materials which I use to assist children interested in learning a second language—given their parents' approval and willingness. I have found this to be a beneficial practice for them before they start daycare or commence their first grade at school. With a basic understanding of a second language, the formal learning process becomes simpler. I never force children; instead, I make learning French fun by creating games and activities. I am a graduate in Bachelor of Science in Social Work. I worked as Social Worker in a center for person with special needs before working as a nanny in Hongkong for almost 9 years. I worked for almost 7 years in my last employer before flying to Canada.
