I'm Jacob, I first started driving within my work almost immediately once I got my first car. I was just starting out my IT career at a local IT MSP as their Systems Administrator, and had passed my G2 license exam probably only a week or two from when I bought the car. When I bought the car, I very quickly was then given the duties to go out to client sites and do residential repairs for new clients in the community, and was also given the duty to go out on existing client emergencies or calls for support. Also, while I was working as a Systems Administrator, I was also working as a Yard Helper at a lumber store for about 5 months before I started College, where I did get to do deliveries on pickup trucks, and would do other sorts of little work drives trips here and there.
Around end of 2022 I left my IT job and went to college, while in college I worked at a neighbouring town's restaurant as their delivery driver and helper. I stayed there for about 5 months, while there I would be out on the road with my personal vehicle and deliver food nearly every evening of the week, and when I wasn't on the road I was helping out by restocking drinks, and folding to go boxes/pizza boxes, etc. I would also help out with cleaning when I was asked, or during downtimes when I noticed it needed to be done. At the end of every shift I would count up my cash and float from the night and make sure the right amount is given back to the store on the cent, and that cash was safely stored.
After my delivery job employment from the previous paragraph, I worked a labourer for my local municipality, where I would go out with a pickup truck in local communities and towns to assist with garbage pickups by sidewalks, on trails, parks etc. I would also make trips long trips down to Ottawa to drop off water samples to a laboratory that my supervisor and I would spend weeks collecting together from local springs, rivers, lakes, wells, etc. Aside from that, I spent a lot of time driving a tractor to mow long stretches of fields that were owned by that municipality to keep them well maintained throughout the year.
Once I had finished that employment with the municipality since it was only contract for the season, I took a break to study IT again and get certified in some specific fields, and once I had finally finished I was able to get employed by a Hospital to join their in-house IT team. I stayed there for about 7 months, but ultimately it didn't work out with my life's circumstances at the time.
After the Hospital, I was going through a lot of life transitions with moving multiple times, so I was relying on EI for a very good portion of end and beginning of 2024-2025, until I found a new position working as a Remote Associate Technical Support Rep, I worked there for about 7 months as well, until I finally realized IT is not for me in the end, and forcing it isn't working anymore.
So now I'm pursuing what I really love and want to do with my life, I couldn't be happier with the decision to leave the IT world, but I am struggling a lot financially, and really do need some kind of job, but everywhere I've applied so far hasn't lead anywhere and I'm getting more and more desparate, I don't have my own car right now, but am a very safe, considerate, and calm driver, and will take utmost care of it as if it were my own. I'm also absolutely unbothered about the music you listen to, or if podcasts are your thing, I love learning and finding new things and what else is out there so by all means play your favorites! And if a quiet ride is what you need, I'm great for that too!
I've worked as a delivery driver for a handful of different companies (lumber yard, restaurants, food delivery apps), and when I worked as a Systems Administrator sometimes travelling was something that could happen here and there, which would include work related drives that were over 100km one-way, both in and out of cities.
