Kristen M.
I am a 28 year old Canadian female. My love for the culinary arts started in 2014, when I took my first business trip to Germany, making the new tastes and flavors I was experiencing a journey within itself. After Germany, I spent the next few years taking on jobs all around the world, where I had the opportunity to taste dishes from an extensive amount of cultures. From Ramen in Japan, to pasta in Italy, I was exposed to many different flavors and preparations of food. To me food is love, and it is a way we can all connect. I try to resemble many dishes from their original sources, and put the time, effort and passion into each dish, to ensure it is nourishing and delicious. Aside from cooking, my passions include yoga, hiking, painting, volunteering and spending time in nature.
My journey in the culinary industry started with taking a pre-apprenticeship training course with an interest in changing careers. From there I started as a prep cook at a Mexican restaurant, learning how to manage in a fast paced enviornment. From there I moved to a grocery store kitchen, where we provided a variety of meals. I was placed in the bakery section as well as the chef department, where I learned new techniques of preparing food, experimented with different flavour profiles and ultimately developed a love for baking. After evolving and growing from my two previous jobs, I decided to take on a position as kitchen supervisor at the Ark Aid Street Mission. Here I learned the importance of providing the community with balanced and calorie dense meals, an extensive flavour profile and showing love with the food we made. From all of this experience I have developed great time management skills, the ability to build strong interpersonal relationships and attention to detail.
