Our Dad is 91 and has dementia, requiring progressively more home support. His dementia has progressed lately and he now requires assistance with personal hygiene and toileting. The position would require a caregiver who has experience with dementia, can help with walking and lifting or lowering him. It also entails meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and companionship duties like walks and outings with his non-shedding dog. Our Dad has medical professionals that come to the house whenever a medical issue arises. We also have the availability of VIHA nurses when needed. The job location is in Oak Bay Victoria. We already have a full time weekday caregiver. We currently have an opening for a full time live-in caregiver available for the following (it is somewhat flexible): 1. Provide morning care to our Dad if he gets up before the daytime caregiver arrives (9am). 2. Provide evening care to our Dad if he hasn't retired to bed after the daytime caregiver leaves (9pm). 3. Ensure he remains safe throughout the night. At the current time, we do not require awake night time care, but it might move into more awake care. Most nights, he sleeps about 14-15 hrs per night and alot during the day. He is not a wanderer. 4. Provide weekend daytime care generally from 8am to 8pm and also 1-3 above. 5. Also, there are other weekday shifts available. Within this, we will work together to provide you with days off each week for rest days. Accommodation is a private fully furnished room and private bathroom on a separate floor than the rest of the living space. Please respond even if your availability doesn't perfectly match the hours above as we have some flexibility. Also, please only apply if you can live-in full time.

Looking for a compassionate, experienced caregiver to provide a safe and nurturing environment for a senior woman is living with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). The individual we care for is easy-going and requires a high level of personalized attention. Thus, prior experience in dementia caregiving is pivotal to qualify for this position. The role we are looking to fill is a part-time post, where primarily, the caregiver will provide respite care for the full-time caregiver once a week. The specific day can be flexible for a day-long shift typically be from 10 am to 6 pm, culminating to less than 20 hours per week. The caregiver's responsibilities encompass ability to use a Hoyer lift, provide assistance with toileting, bathing, dressing, carrying out range of motion exercises and implementing Alzheimer/Dementia care strategies. Further duties would include maintaining a well-supervised home environment, repositioning the patient as needed and performing light housekeeping chores such as vacuuming. The caregiver would also be looked upon to assist with meal preparations. Providing care within our home, it is of prime importance that the caregiver has prior experience with, or is open to managing dementia and incontinence issues, as our family member uses diapers. A driver's license is not required for this role as there is no requirement or necessity of using an automobile. Compensation for this caregiving role starts at $23 per hour but could be up for negotiation depending on the candidate's relevant experience and skillset. An ideal candidate for this position will be someone who has experience or is willing to work with individuals affected by Dementia and Alzheimer's. The primary responsibility will be to supervise the home environment during the scheduled hours, ensuring our Mother’s needs are attended to with the utmost sensitivity and kindness.
