Position:Companion / Personal Assistant (Non-Medical) Location: Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC Position Type: Part-Time (Flexible hours, less than 20/week) Start Date: Immediate I am looking for a reliable, physically able, and spirited individual to become an active companion and personal assistant for my 77-year-old father, residing temporarily in Jubilee Hospital, Victoria B.C awaiting long-term care home placement. He's a lively soul despite some memory decline associated with mild dementia but maintains a high level of mobility and possesses a love for outdoor activities. The role of this position isn't primarily focused on medical caregiving. Instead, it aims to help my father maintain his active lifestyle through daily walks, manages his essential personal items, and keeps him comfortable and content. Key Responsibilities: Outdoor Escort: Escort my father on walks and trips primarily to Dallas Road waterfront. The applicant should be able to walk continuously for an hour and drive him back and forth. Observation & Communication: Play a crucial role by being my eyes and ears, giving me updates about his mood, interactions with hospital staff, and any important information as needed. Personal Errands & Logistical Tasks: Use your personal transport for running necessary errands like buying medicines, escorting him to appointments, and purchasing comfort items he may need (picking up an eye mask for him to sleep better, new toothpaste etc). Technology Assistance: Assist him with his personal technological devices. Like connecting his headphones, helping him navigate movies, or any kind of easy tech-based activity for his entertainment. Qualifications & Skills: Experience:Previous experience as a carer or companion for a senior citizen is a plus, especially in dealing with dementia. Physical Capacity & Mobility: Must be in good physical health to accompany a senior citizen for an hour-long walk (he's very fit). A valid driver's license and a dependable personal vehicle are required. Patience & Empathy:The candidate should possess a calm and patient nature and should be empathetic. Reliability: Looking for someone dependable (must be able to commit to the same times/days a week), punctual, and communicative. Background Check:A clean recent criminal record, including for the vulnerable sector, is mandatory. First Aid/CPR:An updated certification is a significant plus.
