Are you ready to have the best job ever? My name is Jaxson, I have spinal muscular atrophy type II (SMA), and I super can’t move my arms or legs (wheelchair). So, I need somebody to be my paid full-time caregiver! The job will be located at my basement suite in Langford with lake access. I am seeking a wonderful individual to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) every week. There is also ample opportunity for extra shifts and hours. This will pay shift $25/hour. If you ever need time off, this position is extremely flexible, and I’m often happy to work stuff out with a little communication. The only nonnegotiable is: you must be okay with cats. I have the friendliest feline and she loves people! You will be an enthusiastic, sociable, and willing individual who likes animals and has a driver’s license. I have my own accessible minivan that you must be able to drive. My job involves visiting various businesses, so I need you to escort me around. You also must be capable of lifting my fat ass (once again, 105). You also must be willing and excited to be a part of my team. Truly – this is an awesome role. For a day shift, you arrive to my apartment, and you will either accompany me to work, errands, social activities, or anything else; we may just watch TV. I shower every morning. During the day, there is cooking and minor cleaning. Since I am completely immobile, I require help with pretty much everything aside from operating my computer (dictation software). Whenever I don’t need anything, caregivers are welcome to do whatever they please; they just need to be nearby in case. If you ever perform night shift responsibilities, you will be allowed to sleep in my guest bedroom. You can go to bed whenever you wish. If you do, you just set an alarm for when I want to go to sleep. Once that happens, you lift me to my bed (I’m 105 pounds), put my BiPAP (super easy breathing machine) on and turn me on my side. From there, if I need to be turned over, I call out on a baby monitor. All in all, aside from turning me and putting me to bed, your only responsibilities are to be nearby in case I need to be moved. From time to time, you may accompany me to the bar, to social-events, or some other activity. Otherwise, I work and watch TV (reality or sports usually). All-in-all: I am a very needy boy (because wheelchair) with a quirky sense of humour. I consider myself an optimist, and I absolutely love to laugh. I will be your manager, so that means you need to be able to handle polite and respectful instruction. However, this is an intimate relationship where we spend many hours a week together.
