NO medical background required as you will NOT be administering medication or providing medical care.
As a senior care companion, you will help increase your patient’s quality life in a very impactful way. She is very coy and cunning, and really appreciates people with a good sense of humour and sarcasm—it’s honestly the best way to engage with her as she is quite sarcastic herself.
A successful candidate will show the patient his/her most compassionate self, finding opportunities to deeply connect with the patient to help her feel less lonely.
Roles & Responsibilities:
-Being mindful and responsible of your day-to-day interactions, not just for the safety of the patient, but for the other patients around her and the special care facility as a whole
-Show compassion and practice patience for all activities and conversations patient may want to (re)explore with you
-Encourage healthy behaviours and actions
-(Within reason) Help staff to encourage taking prescribed medication, or medically requested tasks
-Go for walks, assist with gardening when open and hold a lively conversations
-Help patient to participate in group activities or exercises when available
-Help facilitate FaceTime calls with Family members
-Report back to family regarding internal staff-provided updates and your general takeaways from your visit
Facility Requirements:
-Criminal record security check (current within 12 months).
-Tuberculosis screening (current within 12 months).
-Influenza & Covid Immunization Proof
-Work Safe BC Personal Protection
Compensation:
-Monthly Stipend or Hourly (TBD on phone)
