Part-Time Live-in Personal Suitability: Reliability, Judgement, Initiative, Flexibility, Dependability, Effective interpersonal skills, fluency in English sufficient to communicate with a senior who has English as a second language. Specifics: Free accommodation provided to a single lady who has a separate job as a PSW or other, or even a student, who is willing to check on an elderly resident in the same household at least once per day. The female senior is still relatively independent and can complete regular routines such as cooking and personal care. She is provided with some assistance through a formal PSW program. However, as she lives alone, there are concerns that somebody be around when her family is out of town. As such, we are looking for someone who needs temporary accommodation for the winter (November to April), which could be extended or even made permanent, to live for free in the bungalow basement (own bedroom, full bathroom and kitchenette) and just be cognizant if anything unusual happens upstairs and can check on the senior at least once per day. There are no paid PSW-type requirements as the senior is taken care of in that manner separately. Location: Dufferin & Lawrence. We’re not looking for a live-in personal support person whom we will pay nor someone looking to provide the usual personal support services. We just want someone to live in the house with our 90-year-old mother while we’re away and just check on her maybe once per day just to ensure she’s ok or if she needs anything. This might be something like changing a light bulb or similar simple tasks or if it’s anything major, to call us to let us know. There would be NO pay, just free accommodation. You would be living in a separate basement unit that has a small bedroom, bathroom and a kitchenette. A washer and dryer are also available. So you would not be living with our mother who lives on the ground floor. This is an excellent way for someone who is starting out and has minimal possessions to save on paying rent with minor commitments. No experience required, but trust and reliability is expected.
