Greetings! I am reaching out in hopes of finding a lively, outgoing individual to join my son as a full-time, live-in caregiver for my exciting and politically switched-on son at his SFU residence. My son, Miles, is a wheelchair-user with SMA Type 2 - a condition causing significant muscle weakness. Although he possesses complete sensation, Miles needs support with transfers, dressing, bathing, and toilet needs, in addition to tube feeding. Miles is energetic and sociable, with a keen interest in politics, gaming, and lively discussions on a broad range of topics. Currently residing with me, Miles is planning his transition to his university residence in the new year, which initiates our search for a dedicated caregiver. As the live-in caregiver, you will lighten up Miles's life by ensuring his regular transfers, assisting with grooming and dressing, and managing the tube feeding. You will also be responsible for some housekeeping tasks, laundry, grocery shopping, meal planning/preparation, running errands, and ensuring Miles's comfortable positioning. The ability to deal effectively with Quad/Paraplegic Care is essential, along with proficiency in utilizing a Hoyer Lift. Your schedule will be full-time, with a need to be present and engaged throughout the week. However, our family can provide a car for use during your duties, and I assure you, investing your time in my son’s well-being is a rewarding pursuit. A driver's license is preferred (but not necessary) for this role, which will commence on 01.02.2024. While I realize the extensive commitment this entails, I can currently offer a monthly stipend of approximately $3500, with the potential for negotiation as additional funding becomes available, which I am fervently working towards. This position also requires an attentive individual who is able to read the emotional and physical needs and challenges of this young man (as he doesn't verbalize his needs or feelings). This awareness can help in planning or curtailing activities . A good fit includes an energetic, upbeat positive, and enthusiastic mindset. My wife is in the advanced stages of Huntington's disease. We need someone to essentially be a companion to her and to help around the house and with the cooking and cleaning etc. It is also important that you are comfortable with personal care, as at times my wife may need help bathing, washing her hair, brushing her teeth, changing her clothing, and changing her adult diaper. We are looking for a full-time, live-in person that will make our home their home as well. We have a self contained suite in the house and live in a beautiful home in Deep Cove across the street from the water. We are looking for someone to work from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm 3 days mid week and to be at the house on weekends. I am often home on weekends but should I have plans or be away on business, I will need someone in the house that is comfortable watching my wife. I also usually have business functions 2 evenings during the week and need someone in the house during this time. All food is included. No Rent is required. Salary $2,000. Preference given to candidates with Care Aide Certification and Driver's License
