Live-In Caregiver for Seniors Gentleman with MS, Furnished Suite Provided

KM
Active: 16 Jul

Location: Oleskiw Neighbourhood, West Edmonton Care Schedule: • 12:15pm - 5:15pm and 8:15pm – 10:15pm daily (7 hours of active care tasks) • 10:15pm - 8:15am nightly (client sleeping time, caregiver can sleep as well) • 6 days per week Position Overview: We are seeking a responsible, mature, and trustworthy trained caregiver (HCA or PSW) to provide 7 hours of active support and 12 hours of overnight “peace of mind” support, 6 days per week, to a 67-year-old gentleman with Multiple Sclerosis, living in his own home. We want to hire a caregiver who will make this location their home, and not somone who resides in a different home. The reason being, the rent is going to be part of the overall compensation so the best fit is someone who requires this suite as the place they will live. If the person who is hired for this position wants to go to school, study or work in the hours between 8:15 am and 12:15 pm, they are most welcome to do so. It the 'active care hours' need to be adjusted to accomodate school or another job, this can be discussed as well. The Living Arrangement: The successful candidate will have exclusive use of a fully furnished, 240 square foot basement suite. It has been recently renovated and includes a kitchenette (sink, apartment sized fridge, induction stove-top and toaster/convection oven), queen sized bed, couch and television. Outside the suite, the candidate has use of a three-piece bathroom and their own washer/dryer also located in the basement. There is a shared entrance and outside parking space is provided with access to plug-in for winter. Primary Responsibilities: Daytime care: • Assisting with personal care including changing incontinence protection, positioning, transfers from bed to wheelchair and wheelchair to toilet, meals, light housekeeping, household organizational tasks and errands such as grocery shopping for example. Overnight support: • On hand in case of a medical situation. The candidate is not expected to be awake but if summoned via call bell or phone call, the candidate can assist with tasks such as re-positioning for comfort, urgent toileting (which is very rare), or engaging medical support in case of an emergency. Ideal Candidate Profile: • Communication: Good communication skills. Ability to remain calm and clearly communicate with the gentleman, his family or medical professionals if needed. • Reassurance: Providing a sense of security for this gentleman who would feel more comfortable knowing a responsible person is in the home outside of his normal professional care hours. • Reliability: You are consistent, punctual, and take your commitments seriously. • Lifestyle: You may have other employment or school during the mornings. You are naturally quiet and respectful of a shared home environment. Candidate is a non-smoker and does not have pets. • Demographics: Ideally a female between the ages of 30–60. • Experience: Experience and training in caregiving, use of a transfer lift and first aid. • Character: Must be able to provide excellent personal and professional references. Must be able to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Check. Schedule & Compensation: • Days: 12:15pm – 5:15pm and 8:15pm – 10:15pm, active support, 6 days per week • Nights: 10:15pm – 8:15am, reassurance and overnight presence, 6 nights per week • Terms: Compensation to be discussed at interview, accommodation is included. • Trial Period: An agreed upon trial period will be implemented. How to Apply If this position is a good fit for you, please reach out with an email introduction letter about yourself and provide the following: • Your contact information and a resume • Your current daytime occupation or schedule • Any relevant experience with seniors or emergency response • Why this role is a good fit for you If you proceed past the primary interview, you will be asked for: • Police Vulnerable Sector check • Personal and professional references Please DO NOT APPLY if you do not have an HCA or PSW certification, or if you don't have a drivers license.
