Selam K.
I’m a responsible, kind, and energetic person who truly enjoys working with children. I’m currently a university student studying Human Rights, and a big part of my work and volunteering has involved supporting kids and youth. I’m patient, easy to talk to, and I know how to build trust with children and families. I enjoy creating a positive and safe space where kids can learn, have fun, and feel supported. I’m also reliable, organized, and able to handle challenges calmly. Whether it’s helping with routines, playtime, schoolwork, or emotional support, I bring care and consistency to everything I do.
I have several years of experience working with children and youth through both formal programs and community involvement. I currently work at IRCOM (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba) in the After School Program, where I support children age 6-12 and youth age 12-21 by helping with homework, leading activities, and creating a safe and engaging environment. I’ve also worked at Peaceful Village in a similar role, focusing on mentorship, academic support, and positive routines. In addition to that, I coach soccer for both girls and boys between the ages of 10 to 18. This has taught me how to build strong relationships with kids, support their development, and manage groups in an active and respectful way. My experience has helped me develop patience, creativity, and strong communication skills, all of which are important when caring for children.
